A gracious two flat building before, and located on one of San Francisco’s most elite blocks, this project was one of our most challenging yet rewarding design commissions.
The client’s desire was for a single family home.
City restrictions prevent removal of an existing living unit so our challenge was to make the newly relocated lower unit (now behind garage) feel like an integral part of the home for the client.
In addition, the beautiful 1924 Beaux Arts facade was restored with meticulous detail and of course full upgrades to 21st-century energy efficiency.
On the inside, the home was 100% redesigned with no interior wall, stairway, kitchen or bath left intact.
The 1924 floor plan was of no interest to a family of four in 2015.
Luxurious bathrooms were created where there were none. Expansive glass walls were added to the rear.
The completed home finished on schedule, is remarkable in its transformation.
